The most common instance is, forgetting the password while tapping in a new smart device and trying to connect it to your saved WiFi networks. 

Many times, we also land up to our friend’s place or them asking for WiFi password as a first thing whenever they visit. You may also want to see wifi password android without asking anyone out of hesitation. 

While there are other ways to view wifi password android like connecting to your laptop, to reset your modem or considering your network provider to reconfigure the network. But here, we’re mainly talking about recovering your WiFi password from your android phone itself without making it as a hassle. 

Android lacks a basic feature to display the password of the saved WiFi networks in your device. However, it does very intelligently store all the password you might have saved, to the internal reserved memory of its Android device. 

 Let’s discover different methods on how to find WiFi password on android phone

How to see WiFi password on Android 10

For those who possess Android 10 (Android Q), it has become more than easy to view and share credentials of the WiFi network. A QR code is generated, which can be shared/ scanned to connect to your WiFi network. You can also get your password displayed through an inbuilt setting. No hassle, no downloading any third-party app and there you go with an access to the password. Follow the steps to understand better: 

Step 1 Go to the Settings part in your phone 

Step 2 – You would see Network and Internet option. Select it. 


Step 3 – Further, tap on the WiFi section  

Step 4 – Adjacent to the WiFi network, you may see a cogwheel icon (upper right corner). Hit the icon. 

Step 5 – Select the option that says ‘Share’ with a tiny QR code logo. 

Step 6 – You will see a dialog box asking you to enter your PIN, password or fingerprint. Enter the credentials accordingly. 

On your screen, you may be able to see a QR code which is relevant to the WiFi network you selected. Scan the code from your smartphone or any other device in which you need access to the password. If you don’t want to scan, you can rather view the password displayed below the QR code. This is helpful for devices that do not allow signing in WiFi using QR codes. See below image for reference. 

How To Find WiFi Password On Android Using Different Methods :

While it was like a piece of cake to find WiFi password on Android 10, it is not as easy for any other Android devices.

File Explorer App (requires root)

This method is simplest to view saved WiFi passwords on your rooted Android device. A rooted phone makes it easy and more reliable to get access to the passwords. 

Step 1 – Open the ES File Explorer app on your rooted Android device. 

You can download and install Root Explorer or Super Manager, if your default File Manager doesn’t give you read access to the root folder. 

Step 2 – in your root folder, go to data/ misc/ WiFi folder. On selecting the WiFi folder, search a file named wpa_supplicant.conf. 


Step 3 – Open the file and your screen will display the network SSID and their passwords next to it. Make sure to open the file in built-in text/ HTML viewer. 

Corresponding to the psk section, you may find your WiFi password which is the pre-shared key of each network you have connected to. 

Please also note, do not alter or edit any changes to wpa_supplicant.conf as it can affect your device or WiFi connectivity. 

Using ES File Explorer (doesn’t require root)

ES File Explorer app works great as it gives user access to the system files. The app also contains a lot of other useful features like taking backups and restoring your apps. Many users also use it to restore deleted files. 

Step 1 – Go to play store, download and install the ES File Explorer App on your android phone. 

Step 2 – Open the ES File Explorer and enable the ‘Root Explorer’ option. 


Step 3 – Drag your finger to the left navigation bar and select the Local storage option. From the drop-down list, select Device option. 

Step 4 – Find a directory called Data

Step 5 – Under the ‘Data’ folder, locate a folder named ‘Misc’

Step 6 – Find a folder named WiFi and locate a file with the name wpa_supplicant.conf. Open the selected configuration file in built in text/ HTML viewer. 

Step 7 – On opening of the file, you may see all the SSID network along with PSK (password) next to it. You can view all the saved WiFi network or current network in your Android phone. 

Although here we talk about how to find wifi password on android without root, the method isn’t guaranteed to work on all devices. 

Using ADB (requires root)

ADB is a useful tool that lets the user manage the state of an emulator instance or Android-powered device. Using ADB, your computer executes commands to your Android device to perform certain tasks. For this method, you will need to ensure that you have the USB drivers of your smartphones and ADB tools installed on your Windows Laptop or PC. 

Step 1 – If you don’t have ADB tools, download and install the files on your desktop. 

Step 2 – Go to the Settings option on your phone and tap on About section. Then, tap on the Build number on seven times to unlock the developer options. 


Step 3 – Go to the Developer options tab and enable the USB Debugging on your Android device. 

Step 4 – Connect your phone with the computer using USB cables. Go to, download and install ADB drivers in your computer. 

Step 5 – in the same folder, hold the shift key and right-click inside the folder. Select on the ‘Open command windows here.’ 

Step 6 – Copy paste the below command and press Enter

adb pull /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf

Step 7 – The content under the command copies and pastes the content to a file in the folder where you have extracted the ADB tools. Going back to the folder, you may view the file there. Open the file and there you go! You can view all the saved WiFi passwords of connected networks. 

Using Password Recovery App (requires root)

This is again most sought-after and straightforward method on how to see WiFi password on Android. You need a rooted smartphone device for this method. There are multiple password recovery apps available on Google Play Store, here’s the one we’re using: 

Step 1 – On your rooted Android smartphone, download and install WiFi Password Recovery app 


Step 2 – Next, select ‘Grant’ the Root permissions 

Step 3 – Further going to the WiFi Pass Recovery & Backup option, you can see all the saved network under SSID and their passwords under ‘Pass.’ You are done! 

Using the Gateway Address

We’re going to learn how to view WiFi password on android using the gateway address. This method works not only for Android but iOS and PC. This method is universally adopted and it doesn’t need any third-party apps. 

Step 1 – Go to your phone Settings option, select the WiFi option and go to your connected network. 

Step 2 – Under your connected WiFi network, you will see many options on scrolling down. Note the Gateway address.


Step 3 – Open any of the web browsers in your phone. Type or paste your gateway address in the search bar and run a search on it. 

Step 4 – You will see a dialog box, like the one below. Enter admin as your password and proceed with the login button. 

Step 5 – on the screen that follows, select the Wireless option. Under the drop-down menu, choose Wireless Security.

Step 6 – your screen will display WiFi password in the option bar Wireless Password and you’re good to go! 

Please note that the gateway address method show wifi password android only for a connected or saved WiFi networ

Using Termux (requires root)

Step 1 – Go to Google Play Store, download and install Termux 

Step 2 – Open the app and enter the following command 

 Step 3 – Grant Termux root privileges by typing the command below 

Step 4 – Select Grant. To locate the device’s WiFi configuration file enter this command 

Step 5 – proceed by navigating the network block (a line with a code “network={“)

Step 6 – you will find a line starting with “psk=” under the block 

Using Other Apps 

To find WiFi password on Android there are many other third-party file managers for Android users. Most of them require your phone to be rooted to get access to the phone’s internal memory.
